Fortune cookies for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, in 2025 will last 16 days, from Wednesday, January 29 to the Lantern Festival on February 12.

The holiday is a time to celebrate family unity, good fortune, and renewal. Some traditions include: 

• Family dinners: On the eve before the new year, families gather for dinners and reunions.

• Open house: On subsequent days, people invite friends and strangers to dine with them.

• Yee Sang: A vegetable medley dish where diners throw pieces into the air with chopsticks for good luck.

• Duilian: Scrolls with famous lines from Chinese poetry are hung up.

• Lion and dragon dances: Performances of these traditional dances are a common part of the festivities.

• Fireworks: Large fireworks displays are often held in Chinese districts and cities with large Chinese populations.
